Like our gingerbread houses and leprechaun houses, we made three little pig houses for storytelling and play.
We started with the 3 little pigs' houses. One made of straw, one made of sticks, and one made of bricks. Then, we created some add-ons. In this set, we included the pigs and the wolf. We also added some other fun cutouts to add to the scene!
These houses are adorable! We love that they encourage imaginative play and can be used in so many ways!
The 3 little pig houses are open on one wall to play inside the house. Each house has decorations, a different look inside to fit the style of the house and even a floor! One of our favorite additions is the chimney on the brick house.
The chimney is the perfect addition for playing out the stories. You can even send the wolf down the chimney and into the pot. Just like in the story of the 3 pigs
This printable comes in both a color option and a black-and-white option. If you print the black-and-white version, we recommend coloring the houses before cutting. Let’s walk through how to assemble your houses.
3 Little Pigs' Houses Assembly
Straw and Stick House
Step 1: Printing
Begin by printing the pages double-sided on cardstock. If your printer doesn’t support double-sided printing, simply feed the pages in again to print on both sides.
Step 2: Cutting
Carefully cut out the house along the thick lines on the outer edges. Remember to only cut along the thick black lines. This includes removing the fourth piece, the floor. This will leave you with 3 sides of the house.
Step 3: Folding
Fold along the wall lines to give your paper a 3D shape. Don’t forget to fold the lines on the roof and bottom as well.
Step 4: Assembly
Fold the bottom of the house inwards and tuck the flaps into the large bottom piece. Glue the side, roof, and floor flaps together, then glue the floor inside the house on top of the bottom flaps.
Brick House Assembly
Step 1: Printing
Like before, print the pages double-sided on cardstock. If needed, manually feed the pages to ensure printing on both sides.
Step 2: Cutting
Carefully cut out the house along the thick lines, ensuring to cut the dotted-lined square on the roof.
Step 3: Folding
Fold along the wall lines and roof lines to create the 3D structure. Fold the house along the side flap and bottom edges.
Step 4: Chimney
Cut the chimney from the character page. Fold it along the lines. Be sure to read the markings and keep one flap unfolded with the other one folded up. Then, glue it together along the side edge.
Step 5: Assembly
Fold the bottom of the house inwards and tuck the flaps into the large bottom piece. Glue the side, roof, and floor flaps together, then glue the floor inside the house on top of the bottom flaps.
Place the chimney in the hole on the brick house and secure it with glue on the tabs.
Character and Prop Assembly
Step 1: Printing
Print the pages on cardstock, single-sided this time.
Step 2: Cutting
Cut out each character and prop piece along the black outlines.
Step 3: Folding
Fold the bottom ¼” edge up, towards the character or prop.
Step 4: Assembly
Glue the character fronts and backs together, ensuring the folds are opposite to help the character stand. Attach each character and prop to their coordinating stand.
With these simple steps, you’ll soon have your very own fairy tale village to explore and enjoy! Let your imagination soar as you bring these charming houses and characters to life.
