When it comes to celebrating milestones, there's nothing sweeter than a first birthday bash. We had the pleasure of organizing a delightful "bee"-day party for two of our little darlings who share the same birthday week.
Our "bee"-day party theme was full of cuteness, with every detail carefully planned to create a memorable experience for all of our guests. Luckily, we did the hard work of planning a great “bee”-day party. We are excited to share all the buzzworthy details of this party with you!
Invitations
Setting the tone for the celebration always begins with the invitations. We sent out some adorable beehive invitations to our guests.
Party Prep
As for preparations, it was full of crafting! From transforming a wall into a honeycomb to DIY hexagon shelves to hold desserts. Every detail was thoughtfully planned to bring our theme to life. We even found a beehive drink dispenser to hold lemonade. And let's not forget the personalized touches – Lindzi made some signs, a banner, and a milestone wall using Chalk Couture materials. They were the perfect touch. So, let’s break down these decorations for a perfect party atmosphere.
We made A TON of popsicle stick honeycombs. Some thin ones were made for the milestone wall honeycomb and for the table centerpiece. We simply hot glued the popsicle sticks together on the ends to make connecting hexagons. Additionally, we made some wide hexagons to act as shelves for our dessert display. They were about 6 inches deep. We just layered popsicle sticks as we glued the ends together. Then, we stacked them and added cute cupcakes to them.
Let’s talk about the beehives. We made the beehives using large (and extra large) Easter eggs. First take the eggs apart, as you only need half of the egg per beehive. Start at the wider end of the egg to wrap the twine around. Next, we hot glued as we wrapped. When we finished wrapping the entire hive part, we added in a door by gluing a small circle of twine on the side of the twine-wrapped hive. They were an adorable touch to our party!
Activities
What's a first birthday party without some chaos? Cue the cake smash! The kids were adorable diving into their own sweet creations – one with a honey drip cake and one with a beehive cake. The handfuls of cake and messy faces were priceless moments captured forever.
Another fun first birthday activity for the guests is to pick a book for your little one and have guests sign it. They can add hopes and dreams for the child or just a sweet little note. It’s a fun memory to have! Lindzi always chooses one that goes along with her party theme. For this party she chose, ‘Bee & Me’ by Alison Jay.
Minute-to-Win-It Games
If you want some ideas for celebrating a bee-day without it being a first birthday party, here are some fun minute-to-win-it type games we suggest.
Buzzing Hive
Create a hive by stacking yellow cups in a pyramid shape. Players must buzz around like busy bees and knock down the hive using only a balloon filled with air.
Pollen Collector
Scatter Pom poms around the table or room. Assign each child a color of Pom Pom to gather. Use a pencil or stick with masking tape wrapped around it sticky side out. Players must collect as much “pollen” as they can by moving around, but they can’t use their hands, just like bees collecting nectar.
Flight of the Bee
Players must keep a bee balloon in the air using only their breath. To make it more challenging, they can’t let the bee balloon touch the ground, mimicking the flight patterns of bees.
Beehive Build-Up
Provide players with mini hexagon blocks or blocks shaped like honeycombs. They must stack the blocks to build a beehive structure as tall as possible within one minute, just like bees building their hives.
Any of these activities would be a blast to do at a birthday party!
Treats
Our dessert table was a sight to behold. We had some simple beehive cupcakes that were the perfect addition to our honeycomb shelves. We had some stacks of donuts.
We also made some adorable bumble bee cake pops that we had around the party. You can find out how to make those here. We walk you through, step-by-step, to make these adorable cake pops.

In addition to our yummy treats for our guests, we had our 2 cakes on display until it was cake time! It was quite a sight!
Party Favors
As a nice little addition to the party were these honey jars that we gave out as a party favor. We ordered the jars on Amazon and filled them with honey. Then we topped the lid off with some burlap and tied it with twine. As guests left, they each took one to enjoy their own sweet honey!
This party was a blast to put together! It involved some great crafts and delicious sweets. We hope with these tips and ideas you are able to put it together and love it just as much as we did.
