Party Food

Planning out party food comes next on the list of party preparations. Plan out the time of your party. That will help you know what the food should look like. We have some construction themed foods ideas later in this blogpost.

Assemble lunch boxes or taco bar food tags.

We also made our cups into traffic cones by putting white tape around the cups an inch from the top and bottom of the cup.

Birthday Cake

Now is also the time to plan and choose a cake. If you plan to buy one, place your order! If you are planning to make it, decide on your design. Why not the best of both worlds? We bought a delicious chocolate cake from Costco and decorated it ourselves. First, we crushed Oreos and Butterfingers. Then we sprinkled them on the cake to make a construction site. We also made a road going to the cake that cut off part of the cake. Then, we placed some tractors. It was simple. And it matched the theme well!

Construction Birthday Party Ideas for Decorations

The next stop for party prep is decorations. This is the part of the prep that is left until the day before or the day of. We just like to do as much decorating before party day as possible. That way the day is less stressful and we are able to be more flexible with our time.

An easy place to start with decorations is to focus on colors. Choosing a color scheme can help tie your party decorations together.

For our construction birthday party, we chose 3 main colors to focus on. Yellow, orange, and black. We even bought all of our paper goods and cutlery in these colors. Having all aspects of your party match the theme is an easy touch that really brings your party to the next level.

Construction Theme Party Backdrop

The next decoration we love to make our parties extra special is themed balloon arches. Balloon arches add some dimension to your decorations. This construction-themed balloon arch was perfect and the perfect construction theme party backdrop! First, we hung streamers (strips of plastic tablecloth) on the wall where the arch was going. Then we added in some caution tape to add to the theme. This made a perfect construction theme party backdrop for pictures. When we were happy with the streamers it was time to add balloons.

We decided to do sections of color for this balloon arch. After setting up the balloon arch, we placed cones and signs around.

Construction Party Signage

We printed our adorable signs for each station and placed them on paint stir sticks in buckets as stated above. We filled each small black bucket full of rocks. This helped the signs stay upright and helped guests know where each station was for each activity.

The signs, with their tractor pictures, add another element to the theme. They are so fun, you will want to keep them on the wall after the party!

The last step of preparations and decorations is to set up your activity centers. Making sure you have all of the supplies needed readily available before the party begins will help everything run smoothly.

Construction Birthday Party Activities

To make your construction birthday party an even bigger hit, you will want fun construction activities, and we have you covered. Our "A Day in the Life" construction packet includes printables like safety inspections, project planning, and equipment training to keep the kids entertained.

Each child will have a clipboard with their Construction Crew Task List and a lunch box designed to resemble a lunch pail.

Lunch Break

In the middle of the party, or the middle of the "construction work day,” invite everyone to gather around for a lunch break. Because we couldn't decide, we had two options for food at our construction birthday party.

For the grown-ups, we served a Build Your Own Taco Bar complete with adorable food labels for the toppings.

The sign and creative food labels are included in our birthday party bundle or individually.

The other option of food was an actual lunch. We had lunch boxes (take-out boxes) for the kids just like the construction workers would take to work.

The lunch boxes were filled with sandwiches, chips, and a banana. Other fruit to put in the lunch would be an apple or orange. You could also add a soda or juice box to the lunch.

For sandwiches, we used Uncrustables but any sandwich would work! You can make it as easy or as fancy as you want.

The kids loved their lunch boxes and were thrilled to bring them home.

We served orange soda for our lunch break in cone cups for a drink.

For a lunch break treat, we served mud cups. These desserts are made by layering chocolate pudding in a cup and topping it with crushed Butterfinger candy. You can either use pre-made pudding cups or make your own using pudding mix. To fit the theme, we served the mud cups with mini shovel spoons, making it a fun snack for the kids.

Project Showcase and Celebration

Now is the time to end the celebration with delicious cake and the unwrapping of presents. Be sure to take pictures of your guests with the birthday boy in front of your balloon arch! It will make a great keepsake to remember the fun party!

Also, guests will receive their daily wage, or party favor. This adds a unique twist to the festivities. Whether in the form of play money or delightful chocolate coins, these party favors serve as a token of appreciation, making the celebration even more memorable.
