Fun Summer Activities for Kids

When summer rolls around, the days are longer, the kids are out of school, and there are endless opportunities for fun. That’s why we love putting together a summer bucketlist—a beautiful collection of fun activities for kids to make the most of the season!

Below are some fun ideas for activities on the summer bucketlist.

Go on a Family Road Trip

Whether it’s a cross-country adventure or a simple quick getaway, road trips are a great way to explore new places. It doesn’t have to be far. You can even take a day trip to a nice view you have been meaning to see.

Wherever you go, make it exciting! Pack a lunch and maybe some of your favorite snacks. Then head out to the spot on your summer bucketlist.

Enjoy a Family BBQ

Fire up the grill and have a backyard cookout with burgers, hot dogs, and all your favorite sides. Better yet, invite some friends or family over to enjoy it with.

Set Up a Lemonade Stand

Remember selling lemonade as a kid? Teach your kids a little entrepreneurship by helping them set up a lemonade stand in the neighborhood. Have them help make the lemonade, put together a stand, and make a sign. Your kids will enjoy it just as much as you remember it.

Make Tie-Dye Shirts

Tie-dying shirts are a classic summer activity that lets kids create their own colorful designs. Grab a kit or make your own by collecting shirts, rubber bands, Rit dye, and bottles. Let your kids go wild. They will love wearing their own designs.

Go On a Bug Hunt

Grab a magnifying glass and explore the backyard. You could also go on a nature walk looking for bugs. If real bugs gross you out or you don’t have many where you are, you can grab our bug hunt free printable and set up your own bug hunt with pretend bugs.

Go Swimming at a Pool or Lake

Grab your suits and beat the heat with a fun day in the water. Just remember the sunscreen!

If you would rather have a backyard pool party, grab the towels and set up the pool! We love the splash pads you can get off Amazon or the water blobs —especially for our little kids.

Visit a Farmers Market

Pick out fresh fruits, veggies, and homemade treats while supporting the locals. Farmers Markets are typically full of fun music, making it a great place to explore.

Make Your Own Popsicles

This is an activity our kids love! Grab some fun molds and choose your favorite flavors. You can just make popsicles from Kool-Aid but we prefer to add some form of cream. It makes the popsicles less like an ice cube.

You can also make popsicles from blended fruit and juice. However you choose to do it, letting your kids help will get them so excited to eat them!

Tips for Lake Powell with Kids

Draw with Sidewalk Chalk

Let the kids get creative with chalk art on the driveway or sidewalk. Chalk is one of the great summer activities for kids. It is essentially mess-free and it gets the kids outside. They can show you their creativity, or you can draw a game like hopscotch!

Play Mini Golf

A fun, family-friendly activity that’s great for all ages. We love taking the kids mini golfing as part of our summer bucketlist. Although we love mini golfing, we also have some alternative activities you can do at home to save money.

Check out our golf activities from the golf party we had. These activities were fun for kids of all ages. They would be a perfect summer activity, especially if you have some little fans of golfing.
