Rodeo Birthday Party Decorations

The decorations for this party were amazing. The best part was, they were pretty simple to round up and put together.

A living room decorated for a baby's first rodeo-themed birthday party. Cowboy hats are displayed on a wooden stand, a saddle sits on the floor, and a balloon arch with brown, black, and peach balloons surrounds a sign reading "Rocky's First Rodeo.

Balloon Arch

We had a fun balloon arch with a backdrop. We also had a First Rodeo sign on the wall of the balloon arch. You can grab our First Rodeo Birthday Party Bundle and find the SVG fold in there. Or we also have it stand-alone here.

Around the balloon arch, we had a cowhide rug and a saddle on a stool for photo ops.

A toddler wearing a red bandana sits on a saddle indoors, surrounded by a balloon arch in shades of black and brown. The wall behind reads "Rocky's First Rodeo" in bold black letters.
A festive room with a Western theme features an arch of black, brown, and white balloons. A sign reads "Rocky's First Rodeo." Cowhide rug, saddle, boots, and lasso add to the decor. A framed photo is on the wall.

Rodeo Party Chute Seats

The next stop in our first rodeo birthday decorations is the chute seats. We grabbed some pallets and set a bench on top, then we placed a bench in front of that. This created some fun bleacher-style seating for the kids to watch and cheer for each other during the activities.

Room decorated for a rodeo-themed party with a wooden bench, a display of stick horses, and a large balloon arch in white, tan, and brown. A framed rodeo photo and a sign about "Coyote Shoats" are on the wall.

Cowboy Gear

We had our gear for our little cowboys on a ladder shelf. It was set up with their hat and bandana for each buckaroo. We have a sign for this area of the party in our first rodeo birthday party bundle.

A display of brown cowboy hats on a wooden ladder shelf, each paired with a red bandana. Nearby, a sign reads "Western Cowboy Wear - Giddy Up & Gear Up!" A pair of brown cowboy boots is placed on the carpeted floor.
A wooden ladder shelf displays cowboy hats and red bandanas. A black cowboy hat is on top. A sign reads, “Western Cowboy Wear, Giddy Up, Gear Up!” Brown cowboy boots are on the floor. Balloons are in the background.

Buckin' Broncos

Next stop is our buckin’ broncos! We made stick horses for each of our guests. They used them to participate in all of the activities.

A toddler in cowboy-themed attire stands by a stair gate, smiling. A pretend horse head decorates the railing. Nearby, a wall display features milestone photos. A toy cow sits on the floor. A cowboy hat rests on top of the photo display.
Plush horse heads with button eyes are attached to a railing. Nearby, a wooden ladder displays several vintage-style posters, each labeled with different months. The setting appears to be a cozy, indoor space.

We have a tutorial and pattern for the stick horses coming soon. You can also just buy some horses for your cowboys to ride. We found these horses on Amazon that we thought were cute too!

Stick Horse

For our buckin’ bronco display, we set up a pallet and had the horses hanging out waiting for each cowboy to make their draw.

We also borrowed a wooden rocking horse that made a cute addition to our space.

A wooden display holds several plush hobby horse heads with manes in various shades. A sign nearby reads "Buckin Bronco Ride 'Em Cowboy! Random Draw Will Assign Your Horse." A pair of cowboy boots and a cactus are on the floor beside the display.
A room with white curtains on a window, a wooden rocking horse with a rope saddle on the floor, and a wooden pallet stand holding plush horse toys. A small cactus decoration is visible next to the pallet stand.

Milestone Pictures

First birthdays are never complete without some milestone pictures! Whether you specifically take milestone pictures every month or you just pull up a picture for each month of your baby’s life for the first 12 months; it is fun to see all of the changes in the first year of life!

For our milestone setup, we made these adorable milestone pages. They look like wanted posters. They matched our western theme too, so it made it super fun!

A decorative display features six black-and-white photos of a baby, each labeled with the age of 1 month to 6 months. The photos are attached to a rustic wooden ladder, next to a staircase and a horse-shaped decor item.
A staircase with a gallery of framed baby photos labeled by months (3, 6, 9, 12) on a rustic wooden display. A white cowboy hat hangs on top. A baby safety gate and horse plush toys are nearby. A rope hangs on the wall to the left.

These posters are available in the First Rodeo Birthday Party bundle and are editable on Canva. You will need to add your photos with a sepia filter if you want them to give off the same vibes as a wanted poster.

Additional Rodeo Party Decorations

In addition to the rest of the decorations, we hung some cowboy hats up, added belt buckles, and had some fake cactus plants around the party area. They were a simple, yet nice touch.

Three light-colored cowboy hats hang on a wall beside a white curtain, with each hat arranged at different angles. The wall and curtain create a minimalist background.
A red booklet with the text "Wrangler NFR Rocky 2024 - 12" lies on a wooden table. The table is decorated with a cowhide runner. Metal spurs are placed beside the booklet.
A decorative metal star sculpture with jagged edges sits on a wooden cabinet. Four ornate badges are displayed beside it. A round mirror hangs on the wall, reflecting part of the star and a minimalistic interior.

Rodeo Birthday Party Activities

This party was chock full of activities that were fun for all ages! Everyone enjoyed themselves at this rodeo.

We started off the party with each cowboy getting their participant number. We made these numbers beforehand and added each guest’s name. This made them personal and fun!

A child wearing a red bandana and a striped shirt with "NFR ROCKY 2024" plays with a lasso indoors, aiming at a wooden rocking horse. In the background, a person sits on a sofa. Decorative items include gift bags and a stuffed toy.

You can find these numbers in the First Rodeo Birthday Party bundle. Then, you can edit them on Canva to have each of your cowboys’ names.

We also posted a schedule of events. The schedule looks just like a decoration; it fits in so well. We loved having it out because it gave our guests a quick rundown of each activity that we were doing at the party.

The schedule has 4 activities listed on it. Barrel Racing, Tie-Down Roping, Rawhide Racing, and Steer Wrestling. You can check out this blog post to see how we ran each of these activities and what you can do to add these activities to your Rodeo birthday party.

Children dressed as cowboys with hats and red bandanas sit on hay bales and play with hobby horses. A mix of beige, brown, and black balloons decorate the room. One boy points, while others watch him. A wooden barrel is on the left.

Rodeo Activities

After we timed all of the cowboys on each event, we determined a winner of each event. You can give the winners a prize if you want or just have everyone give them a big YEE-HAW! If you choose to only get a few stick horses, the winners could keep theirs. We let each cowboy take their horse home and they were all pleased to have their own horse.

Then it was the classic time for a smash cake and opening presents. We love having a themed cake to match the party theme. We ordered ours from a local bakery. It was so cute!

A baby sitting in a wooden chair eagerly eats a messy cake with their hands. Cake crumbs and frosting are scattered on the tray and chair. The baby is wearing a red bib and smiling with delight.

Rodeo Party Food

Just like at the rodeo grounds, we had a menu up for our guests to see what we had on our food table. Only, all of the food had themed names! We also have food labels for your guests to match the themed name to the food. The poster is cute and part of the decorations as well as the concessions flags we hung on the food table. Both are part of the First Rodeo Birthday bundle. The bundle also has the cutest cupcake toppers!

A food table with a "Concessions" sign displays burgers, chips, and snacks. Behind, a wall showcases framed photos of a child. A menu is on the left, set on a wooden barrel.

For food, we served some really western pulled pork sandwiches and corn dogs. Served with chips on the side.

A dish labeled "Rustler's Pork Pulled Pork" is served in a white oval container on a wooden board. Next to it are sesame seed burger buns. The table is covered with a red bandana-print cloth.
A galvanized bucket filled with various chip bags, including Smartfood White Cheddar and Doritos, lined with a red bandana. Nearby, a small bucket holds wrapped items labeled "Cowboy Cutlery" on a western-themed table.
Two baskets of corn dogs on red and white checkered paper, placed on a table. A small sign reads "Bobs Dogs Corn Dogs." A container of blueberries is visible in the background.

We added some berries and cream, which were a delicious side. For the cream, we bought some cream for a soft-serve machine from our local grocery store. This cream added a level of sweetness to this side that was dreamy.

A table with a red bandana, a bowl of blueberries, a bowl of sliced strawberries, and a card labeled "Berries and Cream Fruit with Dip." Behind is a metal bucket with glass carafes of milk and a stack of cups.
A buffet table with various foods, including hot dogs, corndogs, cut strawberries, blueberries, sliced bread, and glasses of milk. The table is decorated with a red bandana and some framed pictures in the background.

We had some other sweet treats around the food table. Rice crispy treats and chocolate cookies were among the food.

A tray of chocolate cookies labeled "Cow Pies" on a table. The cookies are arranged in rows, and the label card is placed in front of the tray.
A wooden tray with stacked Rice Krispies treats labeled as "Hay Bales." In the background, a metal tray holds cookies, and decorative grass is in a vase.

For drinks, we served some soda, Gatorade, and water.

A metal tub filled with ice and assorted beverages, including A&W cans, a plastic water bottle, and a green Gatorade bottle. Labels in front read "Bronco Brew," "Waterin' Hole," and "Cowboy Coolade.
A food table with a "Concessions" sign displays burgers, chips, and snacks. Behind, a wall showcases framed photos of a child. A menu is on the left, set on a wooden barrel.

Rodeo Party Food Ideas

We had some sweet cupcakes with our little cowboy as a topper on them. The hat toppers were awesome to add to the pictures of our cute little dude. They would also work as stand-alone toppers.

A table with a black-and-white checkered cloth features chocolate cupcakes topped with paper cutouts of babies wearing cowboy hats. Two white vases with dried grass add decoration to the scene.

A dining table is adorned with a cake featuring a bull figurine on top, surrounded by decorated cupcakes and vases filled with ornamental grass. Sunlight streams through a window, creating a cozy atmosphere.
