Winter Bucket List

Winter is such a magical season, but it is also so easy to cuddle up and stay in the whole season. Have you ever done that? We sure have! Playing games, watching movies, doing puzzles, and crafting.

None of that is bad, but the winter has so much to offer that you can only do in the winter! Even if there is no snow at your house for the winter, there are still fun activities you can do as a family.

You can use this Winter Bucket List Printable to plan out your whole season of fun! We added some holiday activities and other non-holiday activities.

Winter Bucket List Activities

When making our Winter Bucket List Printable, we thought up some of our favorite winter activities to do with our kids. Then, Lindzi painted images to match each activity. Here are some winter activities we don’t think you should miss this year. And a few ideas on how to make them happen.

Some activities are holiday-related. Winter is full of big holidays. We think incorporating these activities is the perfect way to hit it all. Download your winter bucket list printable so you can keep track of the exciting winter fun you’ve planned!

Watch A Holiday Movie

Christmas Movies? Groundhogs Day? Maybe even Valentine's Day.

Choose any winter holiday, then pick a movie. Snuggle up with your favorite blankets, grab a yummy treat, and watch a fun family movie.

Maybe even let the kids build a fort and watch a movie inside. However you choose to enjoy this activity, making it a little different will create those perfect memories with your family!

Make Holiday Cards

Spend some time as a family making some homemade holiday cards. Making cards is always a fun time together. Let your family's creativity run wild.

Everyone loves receiving cards, especially thoughtful homemade ones!

Visit a Christmas Tree Farm

The perfect, cheap (or free) winter outing. We love that we can go admire the trees of all shapes and sizes! It is also a great place to get some cute winter pictures of the kids or your family.

Decorate a Gingerbread House

There are many ways to do this activity! Many people try to fit all of the Christmas activities in during the first 25 days of December.

We love decorating gingerbread houses, but this is also something we sometimes fit in between Christmas and New Year's while we are relaxing and enjoying the holiday week.

If Gingerbread and candy aren’t your thing, you can still check this off of your Winter Bucket List Printable. We have made some paper gingerbread house boxes.

You can print them on brown paper and decorate them with a white gel pen, or you can print them on regular copy paper and let the kids' creativity run wild! We have loved making gingerbread villages with these.

Bake Holiday Cookies

Making sugar cookies is an activity all of our kids love! They love to make them fun shapes and to decorate them. It’s like edible playdough!

Visit A Holiday Light Display

Light displays have really taken off in the last bit. You can find some really incredible ones in neighborhoods right by you. Hats off to those dedicated enough to make something great for us to enjoy!

You could also find an event or park that has lights by you. Our kids think lights are so fun. We think lights and snow are magical.

Go Ice Fishing

This may be an intimidating activity but trust us, your kids will have so much fun. It is a winter activity that is sure to make memories.

Go Ice Skating

We love ice skating. Although this is an activity you can do year-round at an indoor rink, it will be so much more fun if you can find an outdoor ice rink to ice skate at. You will also be surprised at how quickly most kids pick up ice skating.

Sled Down A Big Hill

You probably don’t have to go far — unless you have no snow. You can even take your kids to the biggest hill in the neighborhood or the nearest park. Have a blast going down the hill with your kids, they will never forget it.

Go Skiing or Snowboarding

This is a fun activity that is also a bit pricey. If you are teaching your kids for the first time, you could even take them to a mountain where people sled and work on their skiing or snowboarding skills.

Many resorts let kids under 6 ski the bunny hill free with a paying adult. As your kids get better and more comfortable, resorts typically have lift passes for younger kids that are either free or cheaper than regular day passes. Look for discounts at your local ski resorts and then take a family outing on the slopes (or in the lodge).

Make Snow Angels

Here’s another activity that is free and can be combined with other things. Last winter, we read the book Over and Under the Snow, and then went on a winter nature walk.

We made snow angels and looked for signs of animals in the winter. It was a great activity to pair with snow angels. You can check out that activity here.

Build a Snowman

Building a snowman is such a fun experience for all involved. It is an activity that your kids will never forget. You can build a big snowman, a small snowman, a variety of snowmen, or even an army of mini snowmen. Have fun with it!

Have a Snowball Fight

This might sound like no fun to you, but your kids will love it! There are a few ways you can have a snowball fight. We have made targets out of cardboard and practiced throwing snowballs at them.

Another thing you could do is an indoor snowball fight. Buy or make some fake fluff snowballs and have a snowball fight right inside your house. We like these snowballs, but you can also make yarn balls or puffs.

Drink Hot Chocolate

You can just drink hot chocolate, but you can easily take one time to make it a true experience! While your kids are at school, or even out playing in the snow, put together a full hot chocolate bar for them.

Surprise them with all of their favorite flavors, treats, and add-ins. Then, let them enjoy hot chocolate in fancy mugs or fun hot chocolate cups. This can be an easy activity that also makes memories as a family.
