Welcome to the coolest party in town – a Robot-themed birthday party that will leave your guests beeping with excitement! We have all of the details you need to ensure your robot birthday party is a smooth-running machine.
When Della’s birthday was coming up, she quickly decided she wanted a robot birthday party. Obviously, I had to make her dreams come true. With the help of my sisters, we made my vision of a robot party come to life. This party was so much fun for everyone involved! I can’t wait to share it with you.
Let’s begin with what you need to do before party day.
Preparations
As far as birthday party themes go, the robot theme is pretty straightforward. Especially when it came to brainstorming ideas for activities and food.
Robot Lingo
We started by familiarizing ourselves with robot lingo. These are some words you will want to use when directing your robots at the party.
| Robot Lingo | Translation |
| Power Up | Stand Up |
| Power Down | Sit Down |
| Homebase to recharge | Return to the main area for more instructions |
| Initiate | Start |
| Version Upgrade | Turning older |
| Loading | Waiting for instructions or activity to start |
| Software Update | Party Activities |
| Version 6.0 | 6 Years Old |
Robot Birthday Party Bundle
To make this party easier for you to throw, we created an outline for the party activities, invitations, and all of the extra printables you will need for your party to be a hit! Grab your birthday party bundle here.
Invitations
We started by creating invitations. To set the futuristic tone right from the start, we sent them digitally via text message. But we have two options for you to choose between. There is a 5x7 print or mobile version. So you can do invitations your way.
Print Bundle Pages
Next, we have created some things that need to be printed for your party. Coloring pages, roll-a-robot pages, stickers, and food labels are among the pages of this party bundle. Let’s explore these pages.
Robot Coloring Pages
We have 10 super cute robot coloring pages for you! Each one is a hand-drawn masterpiece for your party guests to create. Better yet, we used these for some decorations also! These fun robot coloring pages were printed off and put into the picture frames that were already in the party area! This added a nice touch to our robot party decor.
Our kids also loved coloring these pictures! We used them as a gathering activity as we waited for party guests to arrive. We also sent a few pictures home with each guest as a party favor. They were a hit!
Robot Randomizer
We used this page for an upgrade activity. We printed one for each guest and had a blank piece of paper for each of our guests to draw their robot on as they rolled the dice.
Robot Model Name Generator and Name Tags
We printed one Robot Name Generator to display near our party entrance. This allowed our guests to generate their robot names as they arrived. Giving all of the guest robot names created a robot tone right from the start!
As our guests RSVPed to Della’s robot birthday party we generated each of their names beforehand. This allowed us to preprint robot nameplates for each guest. We had our guests generate their robot name and then find their nameplate. We printed the name tags on sticker paper for ease of adding to each robot box.
Stickers
We created so many stickers for the cardboard craft! We have gears and gauges, buttons and switches, lights and batteries. There are 29 pages to choose from! The robot stickers have a wide variety of items and sizes. This made it easy for our guests to personalize their robot boxes. No two robots were the same.
We printed each on sticker paper and cut the stickers out. Then when it was time to decorate our robots, we spread all of the stickers out on the table. Then, we let our guests create their own robots.
Other stickers that need to be printed before the party are the Software Upgrade Buttons. For our party, we printed these on sticker paper, cut them out, and stuck them on some mason jar lids. This added an extra metallic touch to these special buttons. Make sure you have each Software Upgrade Button for each guest. Later in this post, we will share how we used these during our robot birthday party.
Food Labels
We created food labels to continue the tone and robot vocabulary at this party. We printed them on sturdy cardstock and embellished them with nuts and bolts for a mechanical touch. Be sure to fill these labels out before the party as you choose what foods you are going to serve. We will also revisit these labels later in this post.
Spray Paint Cardboard Boxes
However, if you are lucky like us you will end up with a plethora of different sizes of boxes, no worries. We spray-painted all of the boxes we were given to create additional robot decor. We built cardboard robots that were different shapes and sizes to place around the party area. This step takes some time. So, plan ahead to ensure everything is dry! We spray-painted all of our boxes throughout the week leading up to Della’s robot birthday party.
The next step of preparation took a while but was probably the biggest hit at our party. Make robot boxes for your party guests to wear. We used cardboard boxes and silver spray paint. We collected boxes from friends and family.
Pro-Tip: Costco-sized diaper boxes were the perfect size and were really heavy-duty. Those were our boxes of choice.
Not only do the boxes need to be spray painted, but the boxes need to be prepped for your party guests to wear. We opened the bottom side of the box for legs, cut a hole in the top for heads, and cut holes for arms on each side. Due to our party guests being all different sizes, we decided to cut these holes at the party. This was a bit chaotic but with all of our adult helpers, we did get in a groove. However, to save time at the party all of these holes could be cut out before the party.
Pro-top: When cutting armholes, we found that making the holes into flaps added an extra flair to each robot and was more comfortable for the kiddos! Just cut out 3 sides of a square hole (top, bottom, and line down the center) and fold the two sides out.
Robot Birthday Party Decorations
We set up our party area with some great DIY robot decorations! Starting with cardboard box robots we were just talking about!
We crafted robot bodies, legs, and heads using spray-painted cardboard boxes. Then, we added a few Robot Stickers for detail. Some of our robots had arms made of dryer vent tubes. For others, we used tin cans for heads. We also spray-painted egg cartons as embellishments.
Then, we added some metallic accents around our robots. For example, we spread around nuts, washers, and bolts and used tin cans to hold supplies needed for the party. Continue the futuristic atmosphere with tin foil decor, a silver balloon arch, and silver metallic tablecloths.
For an extra robot touch, we replaced all our framed pictures in the party area with pictures of robots. As said before, we printed off some coloring pages and they were put into frames.
Robot Birthday Party Activities
Our kids had so much fun at Della’s robot birthday party! Our kids still pretend to be robots in their boxes. It has even been a few months. Surely, you and your guests will enjoy this party as much as our families did. We hope it will provide them with memories for life.
This was an all-hands-on-deck kind of party. A few of us spent some quality time dreaming this party up together. We put together some great robot activities that will make your party a blast! We even put the entire party together as a robot birthday party bundle so you can follow it exactly.
Check out these fun robot party ideas:
Create a Robot
As our guests arrived, we provided them with wearable robot costumes. These were worn throughout the party. No robot is ready without proper customization! For our first activity, we had the stickers laid out on the table and let our guests decide which stickers to use as they each designed their own robot.
Software Upgrade Activities
We upgraded this party into something special! Not only did we create activities and decorations for this party, but we also created instructional source code videos to introduce your robots to each activity. We played each video on an iPad before each activity. These videos tell what each activity is and how to execute it to receive the upgrade.
If you don’t want to watch the videos at your party, we also have written source code ready. You can read each activity’s instructions in your best robot voice! These instructional pages and videos are part of our party bundle available here.
Activities include Precision Mastery, Sanitation System, Innovation Matrix, and Gourmet Algorithm. After each activity, we hot-glued the upgrade buttons onto each robot box. By the end of the party, each robot had 4 upgrades. Let’s talk about each activity that we did at Della’s robot birthday party.
Precision Mastery
Be sure you have enough space for this robot activity! We had so much fun doing this upgrade! You can either watch the video, like we did; or you can read the script we created in our source code file. We basically played Simon Says—robot edition!
We also followed up this activity with a short robot dance party. Throw on some techno music and let your robots show off their precision!
Gourmet Algorithm
We kept things simple yet satisfying with classic favorites: hotdogs, chips, and drinks! We precooked the hotdogs and kept them warm in a crock pot. Then, we wrapped the buns in tin foil. We also painted our condiment bottles silver to complete the aesthetic.
To receive this upgrade, our robots had to fix a hot dog on their own. We watched the instructional video, but there are written instructions in the source code document. Have your robots prepare their hot dog to receive their upgrade.
Della isn’t a big cake fan, so we decided for this party to forgo a big cake or cupcakes. We built a futuristic cake out of Ding Dongs. However, we were surprised to find out that they are no longer wrapped in foil. So, we wrapped them ourselves. But you could easily go the route of cupcakes or cake with silver frosting, tins full of cookies, or robot-shaped cookies.
Overall, our futuristic robot lunch was fantastic and super simple!
Robot Food Name Ideas:
- Hot Dog — Digidogs
- Pringles — Chipbots
- Capri Suns — Sunbot Elixers
- Kisses — Chocobots
- Marshmallows — Mallowtrons
- Ding Dongs — Cyber Cakes
- Ketchup — TomatoTech Extract
- Mustard — Golden Zing Injector
Sanitation System
For this upgrade, we did an easy minute-to-win-it style activity with an upgrade. Begin with the instructional video or read the instructions from our source code.
To prepare for this activity, we purchased silver straws, cleaned some tin cans, and sprayed some mini marshmallows with a silver food coloring spray.
We wrapped our tin cans in the Rubbish Receptacle labels and provided one for each guest.
Using straws, the kids sucked up marshmallows and dropped them into the receptacles as fast as they could. After completing this task (or we decided time was up for some of our smallest robots), they received a system upgrade button.
Innovation Matrix
For this activity, we created the Robot Randomizer. Begin with the instructional video of reading from the source code. Then you will need to provide the Robot Randomizer printable, blank paper, pencils, and dice for each guest. Then give your robots ample time to create a new type of robot.
Once their robots were complete, we encouraged our guests to color their robots. This could be a place to have some extra coloring pages for the quick robots who finish this matrix faster than everyone else. After finishing this task, each robot is given an Innovation Matrix Button.
This party was a blast to put together and even more fun to host! Della had a wonderful birthday! All of our guests enjoyed the party, kids and adults alike. We hope you can find these activities fun and this outline helpful, so you can throw your own robot birthday party!
