Crafting Witches Broom Keychain
These keychains are such an easy Halloween craft. We originally came up with them to put with our Magical Mixology: A Kid’s Potionology. These witches brooms were a great activity to do with our kids, but we loved making them too.

Instructions for Easy Halloween Crafts
Step 1: Create the Witches Broom Bristles
Start by selecting the color you’d like for your broomstick’s bottom bristles. You can either design your broomstick pattern or follow our fun Halloween movie character templates.

Once you’ve chosen your color, cut strands of embroidery thread. Each thread measures about 2.5 inches. We recommend using around 20 strands of thread for the bristles.
Pro tip: wrap the thread around your fingers about ten times to create 20 strings, and then cut the loops at both ends.
Step 2: Bundle the Bristles
After cutting the thread, set it aside. Then, cut a single 5” strand of clear bracelet string.
Gather all your embroidery floss strands, aligning their tips as best as possible, and bundle them together.
Using the end of your clear bracelet string, tie a knot in the middle of the embroidery floss bunch.
Try to use only the bottom inch or less of the clear bracelet string. This will leave enough space for creating your Halloween pattern.
Step 3: Crafting the Witches Broom Handle
With the bottom securely tied, start stringing your beads. This is a fun way for kids to practice making patterns while they create the broomstick handle.
Aim for a handle length of approximately 3 inches, adjusting as needed for your desired look. When you are satisfied with the length, it’s time to attach the key ring.
Step 4: Attach the Key Ring
Loop your clear string through the bottom link of the key ring chain and tie a double knot to secure it. For added durability and a neater appearance, you can tuck any excess string back into the beads.
Step 5: Final Witches Broom Touches
To complete the broomstick look, use a 2” strand of thin twine. Wrap the twine around the bundle of embroidery floss about ¼ inch below the center knot. Wrap the twine twice and secure it with a knot.
