Welcome to the coolest birthday party ever - a science birthday party! If you're crazy about experiments, inventions, and all things science-y, then this party is for you.

My daughter planned and stuck to the theme from the day following her previous birthday! She loves everything science and this party was all she could dream up!

We went the extra mile and turned it into a Science Slumber Party! Now, if you don't say that in Principal Mazur's voice, you need to go watch Goofy Movie STAT!

Now, first things first - let's get started on planning the perfect science slumber party!

DIGITAL SCIENCE BIRTHDAY PARTY BUNDLE

Our Science Birthday Party Bundle has everything you need to make your celebration a smashing success. From invitations to activities and, decorations, we've got you covered!

You will learn in this blog all that is included but here is a quick list of what's included: customizable digital invitations, party station signs, posters, labels, and a birthday banner.

Four science-themed posters with humorous text and illustrations. The first has a periodic table and reads "I Look At This Poster Periodically." The second has a microscope and reads "Biologists Take Cellfies." The third has an atom and reads "Never Trust An Atom. They Make Up Everything." The fourth has lab flasks and reads "I Have All The Solutions.
The words "Happy Birthday" are spelled out using elements from the periodic table, each element's symbol and atomic number creatively arranged to form the letters. The background has a metallic texture. A "PROOF" watermark is visible across the image.
Three signs are shown. The first reads "SECRET LAB Authorized Personal Only," the second reads "NOTICE Lab Coat & Eye Protection Required," and the third features a handprint scan symbol with text "SCAN TO ENTER" on a digital background.
An assortment of colorful, science-themed papers and labels. Items include "Secret Lab" signs, scientific symbols, daily synthesis sheets, hazardous material labels, biohazard and toxic waste stickers, periodic table element cards, and more.

Invitations

First, you'll want some cool invitations to let all your friends know about the party. You can make them some that look like test tubes, beakers, or even planets! Make sure to include all the important details like when the party is, what time it starts and ends, and any other special instructions.

If you don’t want to make your own, we made these invitations. You can grab them on Etsy. They are editable. They are the perfect invitations for a science birthday party!

Two science-themed slumber party invitations are shown, one displayed on a phone and the other printed. They feature illustrations of bubbling science equipment and read "Come experiment with us at Professor Bennie's/Emily's Science Slumber Party" with event details.

Science Birthday Party Decorations

Now it's time to decorate your party space. You can create your very own lab by hanging up posters of cool scientific things.

We created a few things for you to hang up around your DIY lab. You can grab our Science Birthday Party Bundle from our Etsy Shop. The bundle includes most of the things you need (and more) to decorate your lab.

A "Happy Birthday" banner is displayed with periodic table elements spelling "Happy Birthday." Below are four science-themed posters with humor: lab solutions, atoms making up everything, looking at a periodic table poster, and biologists taking "cellfies.

To make our lab legit, we hung a door for our lab entrance. It even had a hand scanner. The background for the hand scanner is in the bundle. To make it even cooler, we added a bag of slime that moves around the bag as you put your hand on it. It was the perfect addition to the entrance of our science lab.

A set of double doors with frosted glass panels. The door on the left has a sign that reads "NOTICE Lab Coat & Eye Protection Required." The door on the right has a sign that reads "SECRET LAB Authorized Personnel Only." A colorful framed picture hangs on the left wall.
A framed image of a blue handprint with a "SCAN TO ENTER" text displayed above it is hung on a white wall. The handprint is illuminated by green lights. The wall next to the frame has a textured, translucent panel.

We also had a shut-off switch for our lab. We had a friend 3D print it for us. The file for a 3D printer is here. Or you can grab one just like it here.

In addition to the entrance of our lab and posters around our lab, we had some other scientific paraphernalia around. Beakers, vials, test tubes, and more! Molecules of balloons hung from some signs. In the corner, there were even some bags of toxic waste! We also had some lit-up jars of specimens.

Glowing Specimen Jars

Create glowing bug jars for science parties! This easy DIY project uses simple materials to make customizable, science decorations.

An orange light switch with 3d printed light switch cover is mounted on a light-colored wall. To the left of the light switch, part of a translucent textured curtain, is visible.
A birthday party setup with a science theme. A banner spells "HAPPY BIRTHDAY." Posters with science jokes are on the wall. The table is adorned with colorful jars, beakers, and labeled containers. Balloons are on both sides of the banner.

Dressing the Part

To fully immerse yourselves in the science themed birthday party and feel like real lab assistants, here’s what you’ll need at your “Scientist Check-In” for each guest:

A round white table set up with name tag lanyards, a black device, a sign reading "ScientIST Check-In," and clear safety goggles. Nearby, a white lab coat is draped over a gray couch. A decorative framed science-themed artwork hangs on the wall.
A young child wearing safety goggles, a white lab coat, and black gloves stands in front of a silver metallic door with signage that reads "NOTICE: Lab Coat & Eye Protection Required" and "SECRET LAB: Authorized Personnel Only." The child is smiling.

With these items, your guests will look and feel like they’re ready to conduct some serious scientific experiments!

We had our clipboards ready to go with all of the paperwork needed for the science experiments. Those papers are included in the bundle.

Science Birthday Party Experiments

Of course, the most important part of the party is the experiments! Here are some fun and easy experiments that we did at our science sleepover

A science experiment setup on a table with aluminum trays and plastic bottles. One bottle has erupted with pink foam, creating a volcano effect. Various supplies, including measuring spoons, clipboards, and colorful straws, are scattered around the table.
  • DIY Bouncy Ball: Mix together glue, baking soda, and glow-in-the-dark paint to make some awesome slime.
A young child wearing safety goggles and gloves is in a kitchen making a science experiment with Borax. They are stirring a mixture in a bowl using a spatula. Various containers, glue bottles, and a notepad are on the countertop around them.
A young child wearing safety goggles and a white lab coat holds a white, powdery substance in gloved hands. Two clear plastic cups are on the table in front of them. A refrigerator with photos and magnets is in the background.
A pair of gloved hands holds a small, round, purple dough. The gloves are black, and the background appears to be a kitchen countertop. The dough ball is textured and slightly shiny, indicating it might be moist.
  • Fingerprint Balloon: Grab an ink pad and some white balloons. Before blowing up the balloon, stamp your thumbprint onto it. After the ink dries, blow your balloon up to see a supersized fingerprint!
  • Guess the Specimens Jars: Hidden in some jars are species that the little scientists need to investigate. Using their senses, scientists must make guesses about what is in each jar.
A young child in a leopard-print shirt holds a green petri dish up to their face, peering through it. The background features a table with several test tubes in an orange rack. The child's eyes and part of their face appear distorted through the dish.
Two young children dressed as scientists react with surprise and excitement. They are wearing lab coats and safety goggles. One child covers her mouth with a gloved hand. An adult hand holds a specimen jar towards them in a room decorated for a science-themed event.

Science Birthday Party Snacks

All that experimenting is bound to make you and your lab assistants hungry. There are loads of scientific snacks and treats you can make, we created just a few:

  • Delicious DNA: Licorice and gummies made into DNA strands.
  • Rice Crispy Molecules: Rice Crispy treats made into molecule shapes using toothpicks.
  • Jelly Synthesis: Petri dishes full of Jell-O and gummy frogs.
  • Dissected Worms: Pixie Sticks in test tubes.
  • Scientist Floats: Fanta ice cream floats.
A science-themed birthday table features a "Scientist Floatis" sign, a "Jelly Synthesis" sign, and various party props, including test tubes filled with colorful candies, green jelly in petri dishes with droppers, and a brightly decorated cake.
A display of colorful candy models representing DNA helices on white trays with a sign in the background reading "Delicious DNA" and featuring a simple cartoon of a DNA double helix. The models are made with red, green, and yellow gumdrops and licorice.
A display of science-themed treats featuring "Rice Crispy Molecules" on a table. The rice crispy treats are shaped into small clusters and colored in shades of purple and green. Behind them, there's a colorful bucket labeled "INDIE" and various party supplies in the background.
A party table is set with science-themed decorations. Test tubes filled with colorful candy, green liquids in clear dishes, orange Fanta bottles, and striped straws in a green cup are displayed. Signs labeled "Dissected Worms," "Scientist Floats," and "Jelly Syrimps" are present.

Wind Down

After a fun-filled night of experiments and discovery, it's time to wind down and relax before heading off to bed. A great way to do this is by watching a science-themed show, such as The Magic School Bus or Emily's Wonder Lab. Both can be streamed on Netflix!

The girls snuggled up in their sleeping bags and enjoyed an episode or two before drifting off to sleep. Not only was it a fun way to end the evening, but it also inspired some ideas for future science experiments and activities!

And that's it - the perfect science slumber party! Remember to have fun, stay safe, and don't forget to take lots of pictures. Who knows, maybe Principal Mazur will even stop by to check out all the cool experiments you're doing! Happy experimenting!
