Instructions for Spring Handprint Craft Keepsake Book Cover
Step 1: Prepare the Cover
Download and print two copies of this free printable on cardstock for the front and back covers. The file is two pages, for printing double-sided. The first page is the farm words and the second page is guidelines for cutting evenly spaced slits in your paper.
Using scissors or an exacto knife, cut along the lines printed on the back of the paper. We left the sidelines uncut, but cutting them could ease the weaving process. However, we found that keeping the sides intact kept everything nice and tidy and helped everything align. We also did not cut the top and bottom lines to give a little wider margin at the top and bottom.
Step 2: Weave the Ribbon
Take a ribbon of your choice (we used ?” width) and weave it through the cut lines on the paper. Any ribbon size from ¼” to ½” should work well.
Finish weaving the page until you have a checkered pattern cover. You can choose to weave the ribbon tight or leave extra space between each ribbon.
Step 3: Attach the Cardboard Backing
Cut a piece of thin cardboard slightly smaller than your cover. We cut ours about ¼” smaller on all sides.
Apply rubber cement to the back of the woven cover page and center the cardboard piece. Fold the edges of the cover around the cardstock and glue well.
Press edges with fingers. Allow the glue to dry completely.
Step 4: Assemble the Memory Book
Sandwich your finished handprint pages between the two covers. Using a hole punch, put holes in each page and cover. Be sure they line up.
After you have all of your holes in place, bind your book with a ribbon. We chose to cross our ribbon down the side to bind our book. Then we finished it off with a bow at the bottom.
