Are you looking to throw a Wicked themed party? You’re in luck! This blog post is all about Wicked themed party ideas that wow your guests!

From the moment we started planning, we knew we wanted this Wicked themed party to feel completely immersive. Our goal was to create an Oz-inspired experience where every detail, from the colors to the activities, pulled the kids right into the story. We love parties that spark imagination and hands-on play, and this one checked every box. By the time everything was set up, even we felt like we were stepping into Glinda and Elphaba’s world.

This blog post is all about a perfect Wicked birthday party.

The Wizard of Oz Party That Started It All

Our kids love Wicked. When the movie came out, they became obsessed. We listen to the music on repeat all day. They even play Glinda and Elphaba.

Before the Wicked movie came out, we knew we liked it, but our kids had never been introduced. The most they knew of Glinda and Elphaba was that Glinda is a good witch. This knowledge came from the Wizard of Oz.

We did a Wizard of Oz book club and party that brought the Emerald City to life. Our kids loved it! That is probably part of the reason they loved this party so much!

Throwing a Wicked themed party has been such a great one! We loved the imagination that went into creating a truly immersive experience. We hope you can enjoy it as much as we and our kids did.

What Wicked Party Supplies Do I Need?

You are going to want pink, green, and black. We bought, created, and designed party supplies.

To make planning even easier, we created a set of Wicked themed printables that tied the whole party together. These included food labels inspired by the musical, activity sheets like our Letter to the Wizard Mad Lib, and themed signage that added to the immersive feel of each space. Having these printables ready to go saved us so much time on setup and created a polished, cohesive look throughout the party. You can grab the full printable set to make your own Wicked birthday party just as seamless.

Wicked Party Decorations

To pull this party off as big as ours, you will need time to set up. Lots of time. The decorations were amazing. We thought about everything, down to the last detail. Now you should be able to follow our guide and create the perfect Wicked party too!

You need to be sure you have all of your stuff ordered and ready to go at least a day or two before party day. If you can, more time is always best.

Wicked Party Decorations

When thinking about how to decorate for this Wicked themed party. Splitting the room into two sections was the obvious choice.

This turned out perfectly! Having a Glinda and Elphaba side was amazing. It added so much to the activities, too!

We went all out with our Wicked party decorations by splitting the party space into Glinda and Elphaba sides. This setup brought the Wicked theme to life and made the entire event feel like a walk through the storyline. Every detail—from the wall colors to the props—was designed to reflect the contrast between the "good" and “wicked” witches.

If you’re planning a Wicked birthday party, this dual-sided decorating approach is both fun and visually impactful. The decor was not only beautiful but also interactive, tying directly into the activities and flow of the party.

Wicked birthday decorations included:

  • Pink and green tablecloths and butcher paper walls
  • Glinda and Elphaba balloon arch
  • Glinda monogram vase, mirror, and silk bow garland
  • Pink dress rack and sparkly table setup
  • Elphaba’s black bookshelf and floating witch hats
  • Hot air balloon letter drop
  • Emerald City hallway with green streamers
  • “Wiz-O-Mania” Wizard setup with lights, curtains, and a giant Wizard head

What To Do at a Wicked Birthday Party?

We planned some fantastic Wicked party activities! The activities for this Wicked themed party include:

  • Magic Trick
  • Letter to the Wizard Mad Lib
  • Wicked Themed Party Food
  • Ozdust Ballroom Dance Lessons
  • Journey to Oz Scavenger Hunt
  • Meet the Wizard

For our Wicked themed party, we followed the storyline of the movie Wicked to guide our activities from start to finish.

This layout made the party immersive and felt so magical. The kids loved becoming part of Elphaba and Glinda’s world as they performed magic tricks, wrote letters to Oz, and even danced at the Ozdust Ballroom!

Children wearing witch hats stand in a circle, following instructions from an adult in a decorated room with balloons and shiny streamers.

If you’re planning a Wicked birthday party, this activity flow will keep your guests entertained the entire time. We were amazed by how well it all came together and how much fun everybody had—especially when they finally got to meet the Wizard!

Because this Wicked themed party was for a birthday, we finished off the party with some Elphaba and Glinda brownies and blondies and ice cream. (Our birthday girl isn’t a fan of cake.)

A young girl in a pink dress and witch hat holds a plate of birthday cake with candles, sitting by green and black balloons and shiny streamers.

Then we took some more time to celebrate our girl with some gifts and singing. Overall, the activities for this party were top-notch!

What to Serve at a Wicked Party?

We had so many ideas of what we could serve at our Wicked themed party. Elphaba food? Glinda food? We considered choosing food for each song in the musical. But ultimately, we decided on “Popular” food. We had some really fun ideas that really knocked it out of the park with this Wicked party food.

Here’s what we served:

  • "Fruit" and Flounce: Fruit Kabobs
  • "Pepper" Poise: Red Bell Peppers and Dip
  • How to Fix Your Hair: Pink Angel Hair Pasta with a Pink Sauce
  • You’ll Be Good at Sports: Gatorade
  • Brains or Knowledge: Jello Brains served on a Book of Knowledge
  • Pop-u-ler…lar!: Popcorn
Red gelatin desserts are arranged on a white tray labeled "Knowledge," with bottles of red sports drink and a bowl of popcorn in the background on a pink tablecloth.
Three bottles of strawberry Gatorade are displayed on a pink tablecloth next to a bowl of chips and a card with printed text.

Wicked Themed Food: Popular

We tried to make our Wicked themed food all pink, but a lot of it turned out red. It actually was fantastic!

We created cute, musical food labels with the lyrics. You can grab them for free on our Wicked Party Food blog post linked below.

For a better look at our Wicked party food, you can check out our blog post that outlines exactly what we did for each item!

Final Thoughts

This Wicked birthday party was like jumping right into Oz. We loved putting it together, but our guests LOVED being in Oz!

The best part of this party was definitely meeting the Wizard of Oz! We loved how it was a personal experience, and the kids thought it was real! It was truly magical!

Creating immersive parties is one of our favorite things to do! Check out some of our other immersive parties below:
